Dragonfly Retreat Wedding // Laura and Patrick // Bothell Wedding Photographer
September 3, 2017
When Laura and Patrick inquired about my photography services for their Dragonfly Retreat Wedding in Bothell (my hood!), I was so excited!!! We initially met for beer in Shoreline and talked about their wedding plans and what they were looking for in a photographer. Not to long after first talking, we found ourselves at Golden Gardens Park in Seattle for their sunrise engagement session.
August came before we could take another breath. We woke up to sunny, blue skies. Christina and I arrived before the bridal party, and shortly after our arrival their shuttles from their hotel started coming up the drive. (I love perfect timing!) It worked out great: we were able to capture all the florals and men’s details before Laura arrived with her gown and other details that I love photographing at the beginning of a wedding day. Once Laura arrived, we were off to the races!
Things I loved about this wedding:
The timeline! There was ample time for each portion of the day. We were never rushed. Laura and Patrick had plenty of time to relax and enjoy the company of their loved ones.
The welcome table and guest book! If you haven’t seen the Pixar movie UP!, then you might not get this… but they had the cutest hand painted UP! style mailbox for cards and “Our Adventure Book” with photos of their cross-country move to Seattle. (Laura and Patrick aren’t from here, but call Seattle home!) Guests were invited to sign their globe next to places they’d like Laura and Patrick to adventure to together. (Heart melting commencing….)
Table assignments and centerpieces! Laura and Patrick continued their UP! Adventuring theme with assigning guests to tables of their “favorite National Parks”. So cute!!! And then their centerpieces: cake for everyone!!! Each table was adorned with a cake stand, decorated by the bride herself, and then individual cakes! Guests were invited to cut cake after Laura and Patrick cut their own cake.
Laura’s gown and overall look! If I had to pick one bride from all of my weddings this summer (up to this wedding)… I’d say that Laura’s look was the most timeless. It was even a bit retro. Her styling was ON POINT (thanks Kat St. John | Makeup and Styling!). She looked like the Laura I met for beers, the Laura I photographed at Golden Gardens… but she looked like the most beautiful Laura I’d ever seen. Her hair was flawless; half up with curled ends. I swear, Laura could look at her images 50 years from today and they would not be able to be dated. No makeup trends, no hair trends… just beautiful CLASSIC styling that will stand the test of time. AND HER GOWN! My goodness. Her gown choice was ON POINT. It had the most beautiful train. I fluff lots of wedding dresses during portraits and the construction of this gown was incredible – the lining of the train was unlike anything I’d ever seen. I was in love from the moment I saw it… and even more in love when I saw it on Laura. This gown was MADE for her.
The photobooth! Laura and Patrick’s friends MADE their photobooth! You’ll just have to see the photos of this setup for yourself. It was awesome!
The favors! Laura and Patrick had the cutest set of favors for each guest: a s’mores kit, candies, and then (tying into their sophisticated UP! tie ins and Seattle ‘home’…) little jars with chocolate covered coffee beans with a tag that said “Thanks for BEAN here!”. SO CUTE. And so yummy!
Their officiant! Not only was their officiant one of their close friends, she was also involved in the two meeting!
I could go on and on about all the beautiful details and moments throughout the day… but you’re here to see the images!
