Wendi and Nick have one of the sweetest love stories, and I feel so lucky that I have been given the opportunity to document it! They were set-up by the owner of the hair salon they both go to. Wendi tried to argue her way out of the set-up but she lost and her hair stylist still likes to remind her of that. After several weeks of texting, Nick asked for a dinner date on a chilly December night. They went to Lombardi’s on the waterfront in Everett and talked until they closed the place down.
Fast forward one year to the anniversary of their first date. From Wendi:
The plan was for a quiet night out on the 1 year anniversary of our first date. The original plan was for dinner at the restaurant we had our first date at but Nick decided that we should try something new in downtown Seattle. He even made reservations :-) He picked Six Seven at the Edgewater Hotel. The restaurant is on the pier over the water and its beautiful. He planned a late reservation and talked with the hotel ahead of time. They tucked us into a table in the back of the restaurant right at the windows and then he waited. We had a nice dinner, desert and paid the bill. He was fidgety and I was playing 20 questions to figure out why and get him to talk about our future. I had no clue :-) What he was doing was waiting for our section of the restaurant to clear out because he knew I wouldn’t want an audience. We talked about having our picture taken that night because we were dressed up and the hotel was decked out for Christmas. When he handed the camera to the waiter I thought that was the plan. When he moved the chair out from beside me and got down on one knee…I actually asked him what he was doing! The ring box helped answer some questions :-) He was nervous. Nervous enough that he talked for a little bit about us but didn’t ask the important question. I asked if he had anything he wanted to ask me. He did and I said yes :-) We did get that holiday picture we talked about; a whole bunch of them as he proposed!
Goosebumps! Seriously the sweetest proposal ever. Not sure if you’ve noticed by now – but water is a big theme in their relationship! Wendi grew up near the water, their first date was on the water, and their proposal was on the water as well! Wendi knew from the beginning of the wedding planning process that she wanted a waterfront wedding. Rosario Beach Marine Laboratory was the perfect venue for this! I hadn’t been to this venue before – it’s actually a summer school for students of Walla Walla University!
Side note: Wendi and Nick’s engagement session was just down the street and across the water from the venue, in the shadow of the Deception Pass Bridge. I haven’t blogged their engagement session yet, but will once things settle down around here! (I actually have a few sessions “in the can” that I can’t wait to share with you all!)
About two weeks before the wedding, Wendi sent me an email asking if I had time to talk as some things were going on that could potentially require a more “loose” timeline on the wedding day. When we got on the phone, Wendi shared with me that her father fell ill and there was some uncertainty about how much he would be able to participate in the days’ events.
I understand the importance of wedding photos – they’re heirlooms that families preserve for generations. They help tell stories. I do not take my job lightly, ever. There are few times in life you have everyone you love in one place, at one time and it’s so incredibly important to have moments like that documented. My soul was so incredibly moved throughout the day witnessing Wendi’s father not only walk her down the long aisle, but also make a full toast at the reception AND surprise his daughter with a father/daughter dance.
Wendi and Nick – Thank you for choosing me to go on this whirlwind journey with you! I am still in awe of beauty of your wedding day details, heartfelt ceremony, and all the other plans that you were able to successfully accomplish with a five month turnaround! Working with the two of you has been so wonderful and I cannot wait to see what life has in store for you next!
