UW Quad Cherry Blossom Maternity Session // Nichole and Derek // Seattle Family Photographer

March 30, 2018

Lately so much of my blog has focused on engagement sessions and weddings, I thought it was time for a maternity session! One of my favorite parts of being a photographer is developing lasting relationships with my clients and seeing them back throughout the different chapters of their lives. Nichole and Derek are a wonderful example of that! Our first session together was to celebrate a wedding anniversary. Soon after that we met again for their first maternity session. Of course shortly thereafter I had the honor of meeting their first baby and documenting those sweet beginnings as well. They’re expecting another baby girl and I am so thrilled to be their family photographer again as their family grows!

We met at the UW Quad at sunrise when the cherry blossoms were in full bloom last weekend. A couple side notes about the cherry blossoms at the Quad: sunrise is the best (and only) time I prefer to shoot there! I arrived at 6:45 am, about 20 minutes before sunrise, and the Quad was already buzzing (quite literally) with multiple drones overhead, various landscape photographers, and plenty of portrait photographers waiting on clients. I had a full morning of sessions planned on this particular Sunday, so I had the pleasure of noticing the crowds and the Quad grow over the course of four hours. It was insane! Even with a sunrise session, lots of editing was required (aka removal of people in the background) to keep the focus on my beautiful subjects.

That being said, I *LOVE* how magical the UW Quad is when the cherry trees are in full bloom. The buildings have a beautiful grey/blush tone which projects beautiful light throughout the entire area, and when the blossoms begin to fall it looks like light pink snow! So incredibly gorgeous. One of my favorite times of the year, and the perfect setting to celebrate the sweet baby girl on the way!
