Kara and Thomas were married a couple of weeks ago along the shores of the beautiful island of Maui, Hawaii aboard the Pride of Maui amongst their closest family and friends. When Kara and Thomas initially reached out about my wedding photography services, I was immediately excited about the opportunity to shoot at one of my bucket list locations. It was wild, because my husband and I had already begun the planning process for a family vacation that happened to line up with Kara and Thomas’s wedding date – and then things came full circle when they booked me for their wedding!
Kara and Thomas were married on Cinco de Mayo (although I will forever think of it was Cinco de Maui moving forward…) aboard the Pride of Maui Catamaran. The day began at the Westin Ka’anapali Ocean Resort Villas, where the men spent time poolside while the ladies enjoyed hair and makeup pampering by Love and Beauty Maui. I joined up with everyone right as hair and makeup was concluding, and we moved right into detail photos and getting ready!
Thankfully I had plenty of time to scout portrait locations around the resort since I arrived a few days before the wedding, so when portrait time came around we were ready to go! There’s a beautiful walking path in front of all of the hotels and resorts on the western part of Maui. The path is surrounded by beautiful gardens and palm trees, and then also several access points to the beach. We were able to get all of the formal portraits done in record time with plenty of time for everyone to hydrate, apply more sunscreen, and prep for the shuttle to the Pride of Maui catamaran.
The shuttle ride from the Westin Ka’anapali Ocean Resort Villas to the Pride of Maui catamaran was about 45 minutes, and it was the perfect opportunity to spend quality time chatting with Kara and Thomas’s parents. Once we arrived, everyone partook in a Coast Guard required safety meeting before stepping foot on the catamaran – it was the perfect opportunity for a group shot of everyone in attendance so I had to take advantage! (See photo evidence below!)
The Pride of Maui captain took us on a short excursion out to some beautiful oceanside cliff views of Maui on the west side of the island. Once the light was just right, we anchored and the wedding festivities commenced! The ceremony was short and sweet, complete with a whiskey box for the couple to either enjoy on a significant wedding anniversary or when their marriage is threatened by rough waters. They sealed the box and sealed their marriage with a kiss.
One of the things I loved most about this wedding?! This group LOVED to PARTY!!! The never ending dance floor and various shot toasts kept flowing throughout the evening. Everyone was so relaxed (paradise has a way of doing that to people) and happy to be aboard a boat with such a fun group of people.
Kara and Thomas – Thank you for entrusting me with capturing your beautiful Maui destination wedding. It was the opportunity and honor of a lifetime. Your day was absolutely beautiful, and I can only imagine how incredible it felt to have those closest to you in paradise celebrating your marriage with you! Now you’ll forever have the Hawaiian Islands as a happy and significant place in your love story. Thank you so much for taking me on this adventure with you!!! XOXO!
