Thornewood Castle Wedding // Hannah and Tristan // Lakewood Wedding Photographer

Hannah and Tristan’s mid-summer Thornewood Castle Wedding left me feeling inspired for the rest of the 2019 wedding season… and I can’t wait to share it with you! Hannah was introduced to me by my #1 second shooter, Christina. (Visit Christina’s website here; she specializes in family portraits and lifestyle newborn photography and is a DREAM to work with!) Christina worked with Hannah’s mother for years at Boeing, and when Hannah and Tristan got engaged they immediately reached out to Christina about wedding photography. I am so thankful they did, because Christina and I were able to team up and help make Hannah and Tristan’s wedding dreams come true.

Hannah and Tristan met on the Edmonds-Kingston ferry. You might remember Hannah and Tristan from their ferry engagement session HERE. For their engagement, Tristan surprised Hannah with dinner at Canlis. Before the dessert, the waiter took them on a tour of the restaurant. He brought them to the roof, where there was a fire pit and a beautiful view of Lake Washington., and Tristan proposed to Hannah there.

There are so many things that filled my heart to the brim throughout Hannah and Tristan’s wedding day, but these are some of my favorite things:

  • Hannah’s father passed away six years ago and Hannah and her mother worked hard to ensure he was part of the wedding day from beginning to end. It’s hard for me to write about this, because it’s so personal to Hannah and her family and also because FEELINGS… but it’s a story worth telling. (And, yes, I cleared sharing this personal info with Hannah before publishing this post!) Hannah had her two Beanie Babies, Pugsley and Wrinkles, with her the entire day. They were with her when she was getting ready, then moved to be sitting where her father would have been sitting during the ceremony, and then they joined her at the head table for the reception. But, I believe, Hannah’s late father was there in more ways than just her Beanie Babies. During Hannah and Tristan’s first look and formal portraits, upon importing and viewing on my computer I noticed a sun flare in some of the images. It wasn’t in all of them (even when taken from the same angle), but I couldn’t help but to smile and think that perhaps her Daddy was trying to show her that he was there with everyone in spirit. Hannah and her mother did such a beautiful job making sure her Dad was present all day, and in doing so, I like to think he also made a special mark on a small selection of the photos.
  • Hannah and Tristan hired the Arcobaleno Strings to play for the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception. After doing nearly a hundred weddings, it was refreshing to photograph a wedding without the heavy bass, flashing lights, and overall club feel at the reception. Everything about the Arcobaleno Strings screamed timeless elegance – a perfect match for Thornewood Castle.
  • The VENUE! All the heart eyes for Thornewood Castle. If you haven’t heard about it and are wanting an elegant, unique wedding venue – check this place out. The castle has an amazing history (read about it HERE) and operates as an event venue, bed and breakfast, and even a movie set! Thornewood Castle is filled to the brim with amazing art, antiques, and hidden doors. The hidden sunken English garden that Hannah and Tristan were married in was in full bloom and was designed by the Olmstead Brothers over 100 years ago. The entire venue and grounds are truly beautiful and I hope I have the opportunity to go back someday!
  • The traditions. Hannah wore a gold bracelet that has been worn at her family’s weddings for over five generations. My heart SUNG when I heard about this. It’s a simple bracelet, gold links on an elastic band. The history behind the bracelet and all the women who proudly wore it for generations before Hannah added an extra layer of personal touch.
  • Hannah and Tristan ended their wedding day much earlier than many couples do, which allowed us to have extended “sunset photos” time since we weren’t stealing them away from their reception and guests. I loved this extra time at the end of the evening to be creative, try some different location ideas, and really beef up this portion of their gallery.
  • Lastly (I could go on and on, but let’s be real: you’re here for the photos…), Hannah and Tristan assembled a stellar vendor team for their wedding day which helped ensure the day ran smoothly with hardly one hiccup to be found!

I was wondering how we can see the family pictures taken during/after dinner. It was the Doyle family that included Kerrigan and how do we purchase that one and a couple of others.Thank you. Your photos are beautiful.
